Thames Path near Tower Bridge // London street photography.
A City worker walking home on a Winter’s night along River Thames with Tower Bridge in the distance.
By now you'll have probably realised I've shot a lot of black and white street photography in London since I began shooting.
I always think of black and white as something to be a little wary of. It's not the solution for bad photos.
Often people think it'll make any photo look good, which in a way it does but it's fairly superficial, a photo still needs to have some magic even it hadn't been in black and white.
Think first of your composition and your scene, what is happening etc... then consider whether you prefer it colour or black and white, but don't skip that initial step of ensuring the photo is actually good and not only because it is in B&W.
That evening I was walking on the Thames Path along the river and the rush hour had passed, a few people still made their way out of The City but not so many that my shot would be crowded, I like it when only one person is visible ideally. I find it easier to begin wondering about that particular individual and building up a story in my mind, as simple as wondering how their day was.
I write a lot about photography on my blog, not just how I feel about photography but I also share photography tips which work for me.
If you are curious about London street photography or landscape photography locations, I've written a couple useful articles on these.
