10 Best Tower Bridge Pictures

Revisiting my decade-long archive of London urban photography I recently decided to compile my 10 best Tower Bridge pictures (as well as other famous London landmarks which will feature in future blog posts).

Tower Bridge is often mistakenly called London Bridge by tourists. I guess it makes some sense in a way, since it is, after all, the most impressive bridge above River Thames in London, you would therefore expect it to be the actual London Bridge. But it’s not.

Tower Bridge seems a lot older than it is, in fact it was completed in 1894, just five years after the Eiffel Tower opened to the public for the 1889 World’s Fair, so just a little over a century ago.

Here are a couple interesting facts about Tower Bridge:

  • The bascules are raised over a thousand times a year

  • In 1968, an RAF fighter jet was flown illegally by Flt Lt Alan Pollock at low altitude and beneath the bridge’s walkway. He was placed under arrest and dismissed. One has to admire the bravery of the pilot.

So without further ado, here are my 10 Best Tower Bridge Pictures:

The next and final one is something different for you all, some of you may be familiar with it already.

I created this piece using Photoshop in 2013 as a part of a series entitled “London 2313”. The series was mostly made of various London landmarks but seen through an apocalyptic filter.

This body of work was published in The Guardian, The Londonist and a few other publications.

It is my vision of a future where humans haven’t learnt to respect the planet.

Let’s hope I’m wrong.

Voila, these are in my eye the 10 Best Tower Bridge Pictures I have ever captured or created. But I have plenty of hope that in the future I will capture even more, even better shots and share with you all!

Meanwhile why not check more of my London Urban Landscapes or alternatively, come on a virtual photo tour along River Thames’s most famous landmarks.
